How to wash your Summer Clothes: Lightweight Fabrics, Sweat, and Sunscreen Stains
By WeDoLaundry •Up until you notice the stains, summer is all sunshine and fun. Warmer weather can be hard on your clothes, leaving sweat stains on your favourite linen set and sunscreen smudges on your white tee. Don't worry, though; we have the best guide for maintaining the cleanliness, freshness, and longevity of your summer attire.
Protecting your clothes is just as important to us at WeDo Laundry as cleaning them. These tips will help you overcome the most difficult laundry problems of the season, whether you choose to do it yourself or hire a professional cleaner.
1. Sunscreen Stains: The Quiet Summer Criminal

Avobenzone and oils found in sunscreen can react with water or minerals to leave behind rust- or yellow-colored stains, especially on light-colored clothing.
Prior to treatment: Use a stain remover directly on the area or apply a solution of dish soap and baking soda.
Avoid heat: Heat will set it, so don't put it in the dryer until the stain is completely gone.
WeDo Tip: Our expert pretreatment solutions remove greasy sunscreen residues without causing fabric damage if the stain has set.
2. Sweat and Odour: Get Rid of Underarm Stains

Over time, sweat and deodorant can leave behind funky odours and stains, especially on cotton t-shirts, blouses, and sportswear.
Cleaning tip: Before washing, soak clothing in a solution of white vinegar and cold water for half an hour.
To naturally deodorize, put baking soda in the detergent drawer.
To directly target the underarms, turn clothing inside out.
WeDo Tip: Special handling is required for synthetic and athletic fabrics. We employ enzyme-based detergents that remove odours and lift bacteria without compromising elasticity.
3. Lightweight Summer Textiles: Rayon, Cotton, and Linen

Light materials are comfortable and breathable, but they are also delicate. Washing them incorrectly can cause them to fade, wrinkle, or shrink.
Cleaning Guidelines:
Use cold water and a gentle cycle.
Make use of gentle, plant-based detergents (such as The Unscented Company or Eco-Max).
Air dry flat or on hangers and stay away from heavy spin cycles.
WeDo Tip: For safe, gentle cleaning, we separate delicates and wash them in mesh bags with pH-balanced, Canadian-made detergents.
4. Bonus Tip: Cleaning Beach Towels and Swimwear
Rinse swimwear right away to get rid of salt, chlorine, and sand after using the beach or pool.
Lay flat to dry instead of wringing or using a machine.
Sand and lint can damage your other clothing, so wash beach towels separately.
